There's always a first for everything!
Beck Family!
That looked like so much fun, the water, the forrest, the fire, all these
things that i miss a ton! I am surrounded only by concrete and thugs. Its a
little bit different than the great out doors, but its pretty exciting still.
The work is going super well here in Compton. I am one of only 4 missionaries,
that is 2 companionships, that actually work in compton. Every body else works
close to it, or right up to the border, but i am the one that actaully gets to
work in it, and it is so much fun. I live in a 4 man pad and it is a blast, we
get a long so well, its just super fun. There are plenty of things that are in
Compton that i have never really seen before in my life.
Like pimps, legit pimps, thugs that have honestly killed
people, fired chicken shops every where, and constant gunshots. Honestly, from
the hours of 6-6, there is a steady sound of gunshots and police choppers.
super fun right. And yesterday in church I got to confirm the lady who got baptized , shes
the one that i send picutres of last week. I was kind of nervous to confirm and
bless in front of everybody, espescially in spanish, but it was one of the best
spiritual expereinces of my mission. just getting up there and letting the
spirit do all the talking, it was super cool. There are just tons of those
crazy spiritual experiences out here on the mission, its awesome.
Today i helped push a mans car a 1/2 mile down the road
to the gas station, so right now my quads are on fire. We then gave him a card,
and he wants to come to church this Sunday. Crazy things like that happen all
the time out here, just people put in our path that are ready to hear our
message. I get along super good with my new companion, he dirt bikes and was a
nearly pro BMX racer, so we get a long just fine. Have an
awesome week family, love ya lots.

I'm in Compton!
Beck Family!
Holy cow life is awesome here. I am in Compton, and it is
freaking fun.
There are so many people here all the time its crazy.
Just people on the streets all day long. I actually live in Long Beach, cause
no missionaries actually live in Compton, cause that would just be a little to
dangerous.
So i live about 1/2 a mile from the city. But my area is
fully in the heart of Compton. It is crazy here, a little sketchy, but crazy
fun. My new companion is a fun loving guy and we get along
great. He is really good with people, and so we make friends with everybody, and
hes really good at being a missionary. My apartment is not nearly as nice as
the one i just left. There are roaches and week smoking neighbors, and gay
people. Honestly, we have a big "Section 8 welcome here" sign on the
front of our apartment complex. not a good sign. But still, its a blast. I
think i sent you enough pictures, and sorry if i make a few spelling mistakes,
but i just have to work really fast. On saturday we got a lady married so she
could finally be baptized. Which she finally was on Sunday. So it was a great
start to the work in this area. Compton is honestly like no other place i have
ever been to, seen, or even heard of. There is a nearly constant noise of
police helicopters out looking for people, lots of sirens, the whole sha-bang. It
is just to fun, i love it here.

My first baptism!!
Beck Family!
So, Life if literally the best right now. Yesterday I had
our baptism for xxx and her son xxx, and it was the greatest
moment of my life. Honestly, when she was baptized, it had to be one of the
highlights of my entire life. She was baptized by her father in law, Hermano
xxx , and I actually have a funny story with him. He was my first Contact on
my first day as a missionary. My comp. had me contact him even though he was
a member and he knew it, but he still had me contact him. Needless to say, it
was terrible. But now it is a funny story and since then I have learned a ton
of my Spanish and accent from him. He is from Mexico city and he literally has
the greatest accent I have ever heard. He looks like the Dos Equis man, and
sounds like the man that all other men want to sound like.
He is flippin awesome and when he baptized his daughter
in law and grandson, it was just one of the best moments of my entire life.
Also, in other news, I am getting transferred. Yes, I am super sad to leave
Hunting Beach North, this is my birthplace and I absolutely love it here. but
since I am done being trained as of right now, it is time for me to go off into
the big bad world. So guess what, I am being transferred to Long Beach North.
In other words, I am going to Compton! yep, legit, I am headed to the hood. I
leave tomorrow, and I am super excited. I have heard from some people who were
in that area of a couple shootings that happened around their apartments in
just the last week. So yeah, it is gonna be flippin sweet. Honestly, I love it
out here, and I feel like I have a real spiritual recharge from yesterday. I am
trying to send lots of pictures right now, but the email really isn't working.
I might have to send home the SD card so you can get all the pics. But if I do
that, please send it back as soon as possible, cause I want those pictures.
Have a good week Family, I love ya'll.

I feel like a real missionary!
Beck Family!
So how is life? Things are pretty sweet here, except that
my baptism got postponed until the 7th of june. It was a really hard couple of
days, cause she basically had a real breakdown about tithing. and it took a lot
of prayer and a talk from the bishop to get her back on track, but now she
seems even more solid than before. I guess there are always gonna be these
little tests that come up, even when the finish line is in sight. This week we
are working a ton on finding new people, cause we have basically had to drop a
lot of our investigators because they wont come to church. It really makes me
stretch my Spanish to just stop and talk to people on the street, cause you
never know what you are gonna say until you start talking. My visa waiter is
still here, apparently argentina is a hard one to get into right now. Now, for
what I spent that 40 dollars on that grandma sue gave me. I heard about these
things the day I got her letter with the money, and I heard that these things
were 40 bucks, so I figured it was fate, so I just had to buy them. They are
leather scripture cases, and they were 40 bucks for both of them. We get them
from an elder here who is from Guatemala, and his family back in Guatemala are
the ones that make them. If you tried to buy these things in the united states,
they would be over 120 for each of them. But that is the beauty of 3rd world
countries, everything is dirt cheap! And I got to pick the picures that went on
them, and they are personalized with my name and mission. They are so sweet
looking, for real, I feel like a real scripture wielding missionary now. Also
last night at our Stake Priesthood meeting, the missionaries got special
permission to go, because the stake president completely chewed out the entire
stake, and then made everyone covenant to spending atleast 1 night month to
going out with us. He totally railed on them, and then had the kahonas to make
them all commit to helpoing us. it was awesome. but that was pretty much my
week, still working hard, life is still awesome, and being a missionary is
still the best. I love ya'll, and have a good one.

Temple Trip
Beck Family!
So yes, it is a tuesday and i am emailing you. But that is
because today i went to the temple, so they changed out p day. I went to
the newport temple, and it was so awesome. We got a ride with some members, and
afterwards they fed us and gave us some referals. They are freaking awesome.
But the temple is so cool, it is kind of a brown/cream color so it totally
looks like the beach front temple that it is. They are the XXX
family, and they are sweet. I also made some Flan, that is what the pictues are
of. I think you could literally send that into a food magazine, cause that
thing looks professional. The person we made the Flan with is the wife of one
of our investigators. The wife really didnt care for us much, but after that
night, we are definitely on her good side. So much good stuff has been going on
out here. Like i was saying on the phone i have a hard scheduled baptism for
this sunday, so next week i oughta have pictures of that. I am so freakin
excited, she has been someone that I have been teaching since I got here. And
she has been an investigator for 10 years, so to be the ones to get her in the
water is pretty sweet. And actually right after this email time i am gonna go
do something else pretty sweet, so i will hopefully i will send some pictures
of that next week to. I am still loving every single day out here. There are
just so many things that i felt like i could have talked to you about on the
phone, honeslty that was probably the fastes 40 minutes of my life. I could
have just talked for hours, trying to remember all of my note worthy
experiences in just my short time out here. So many things have happened out
here, yet i can hardly recall them to type. I still love you all, i miss you
all. You all have a good week.

I love tacos!
Beck Family!
How has it already been another week. So I have been in a
trio for about 2 weeks(i think) and it is super fun. Honestly, a trio is like a
party all the time. Kind of. But for real it is really fun. Last week i learned
how to make real authentic mexican tacos. Oh. My. Goodness. I will literally
blow you minds out the back of your heads when i make those when i get home.
Holy crap, they are delicious. And the trick to it all is, calories are an
after thought. If it can be made to taste better by upping the calorires, then
my goodness add the calories. I love the mexican culture.
They do not sacrifice taste for health, it is just the
kind of mind set that i can really get behind. For real, i will make those
tacos when i get home, and then you will understand that toco bell just isn't
quite right. I am pretty excited to call home this sunday, you should pretty
much just be ready all day for my call, cause i dont really know when it is
gonna be.
And on sunday when i ate at the bishops house, it was
just the entire table full of prime authentic mexican food. I would slap my
companion in front of the pope for more of this authentic mexican food. We have
been working our butts off just trying to find and contact and teach people. I
am just having a blast out here. Today i am gonna make philly cheese steaks for
lunch. There is a store right next to our apartment called the meat palace.
so today we are gonna put it to the test and try to make
some philly cheese steaks. Right now we have a hard set baptism set for MAy
19th, and she is really committed. She has been telling all of her friends and
family about her baptism, and she is gonna go through with it. It is gonna be sweet.
I also got the cool little journal cover, that thing is sweet. Honestly, that
thing is awesome. Well, i hope ya'll have a good week. Keep the dirtbiking
riding up, and keep on writing me.
Love ya'll Beck out, Elder Beck
